These images are the work of photographer Richard Allenby-Pratt, currently living in Dubai. The series titled Abandoned imagines Dubai being deserted as a result of future development in alternative forms of energy. The staged photographs look at what the city would look like should an oil and petroleum market-driven region be faced with such competition.
The premise of the series is that the human population leave and migrate towards regions which offer the new forms of energy and what is left is an urban desert ruin where the animals of Dubai zoo roam free.
Personally I find this series of futuristic photographic journalism amazing. To visualize the potential consequences of human migration, alternative energy markets and economic fluctuation, not through numbers and charts, but through photographic story-telling is so powerful.
