IKEA is by far one of the best budget DIY furniture and homeware stores – on August 25 2013 they are launching their augmented reality catalogue designed by SD techno-design company Inition. The app will allow people to select a piece of furniture and see it in location, one will probably be able to buy it online and then have it delivered. Although there’s still fun in testing out (and lounging on) furniture at an IKEA store.
Last year I watched a TED Talks by tech-scientist/MIT Student Pranav Mistry about a vision for sixth sense technology. The concept he was raising was quite simple…how do we bring our virtual activities into our physical world? What was interesting about his talk is the process he went through to to realize the idea. This was in 2009.
Google have now launched Project Glass…basically a minimalist frame with intelligent glass which interacts with you , what your seeing and captures, responds or acts on it.
Since the idea for this kind of technology has been brewing for a while now I was more interested in what it looks like. These images are Google’s design for the glass device. The beauty of glass is that it is transparent, and nowadays it can be moulded to any shape. Google’s design looks like a pair of spectacles or an alice band which it is not. They may as well work with Ray Ban and create a cool looking pair of intelligent specs/shades.
